Measuring Brand Monitoring Statistics

Manual

The third tab in Brand Monitoring shows you how your brand’s mentions increase or decrease over time. If you have more than one campaign in your project, you can compare the trends of mentions and backlinks between your campaigns. The insights here give you a good overall sense of how your online reputation may be growing or dwindling.

Mention Volume Trend

You can view the statistics for mentions and backlinks on Web and Forums, and mentions in the Instagram. To do this simply hit the dropdown menu next to the date and select which source you want to search from.

Over the course of your campaign, it will be helpful to know which days your brand got the most online press. A visual presentation like this is an easy way to track and report on the progress of a link building or PR campaign. The graph is automatically set to measure the past 90 days, however by clicking on the date calendar in the top right you can change this range to 1, 3, 7, 30, 90 days, even all time.

Not only can you change the range in your pulled data, but you can also change the view of the chart itself. By clicking the chart step drop-down menu in the top right you can change the view of the chart to display the line graph by day, week or month.

You can find the dates of when your brand or keyword was mentioned the most, and when any mentions included backlinks. If you have more than one campaign in your project, you can switch between viewing their trends with a click.

The bar graphs indicate the number of specific mentions of the branded keyword on any of those given dates. When you hover over a specific date, the exact number of mentions is shown. If you click on this mention you will automatically be brought back to the mentions tab.

To save the trend, you can download it as a PNG file in the top right corner of the graph. You can now add your own images to custom reports in My Reports so it’s easy to include this chart when creating a PDF report in Semrush.

Campaign Comparison

With the Campaign Comparison graph, you can directly compare the mention trends of multiple campaigns at the same time. In the example of our fast food giants, you can see how each brand has received more or less mentions than the other over the past couple of months.

As you can see with this graph, both campaigns are much different, indicating that each brand is receiving a different amount of mentions on each day.

This chart can be exported to a PNG file to save your data and integrate into a report.

Top Domains for Web and Forums

Directly below the mention volume trend graph, you will see the top domains. This is the list of websites that are talking about your brand. Here you can see how many times each domain has mentioned your branded keyword.

In this table, you can see the number of mentions (clickable), estimated reach, traffic label (which can forward you to the Traffic Analytics tool), and the proportion of a  domain’s mentions in proportion to the total number of found mentions of your brand.

If you are in the campaign comparison view, the data in the table will display just the number of mentions found for each individual domain.

You can analyze the number of backlinks associated with your campaign on a daily basis with the Backlinks graph. To switch over from your mentions to your backlink data, simply click the backlinks button in the top right of the line graph.

The total number of backlinks going to a domain from mentions during your set time frame will be displayed next to the domains you choose to add at the top of the bar graph. This can help you see any trends in you or a competitor's link building efforts, especially if you are competing for links to rank for similar keywords.

Just below the table, you will see a list of the URLs that have mentioned with a backlink, along with the number of mentions associated with it. You can click on this number where you will be brought back to the mentions report. The number of mentions directly relates to the proportion percentage.

You can connect your Google Analytics account to see your referral traffic from mentions found by each URL, simply select the gear icon above the top backlinks table.

Once your Google Analytics is connected, you will be able to see each page's total number of referral visits from the mentions over the selected time frame in a new column.

Top Users for Instagram

Similar to “Top Domains for Web and Forums”, for Instagram you can see top users that are talking about your brand. Here you can see how many times each user has mentioned your branded keyword.

You can view how exactly people mention your brand name by clicking on the number of mentions. You will be taken to the Mentions tab.
